What Is Reviews Per Month?

Welcome to RPM. Here’s a quick FAQ:

  • Who are you?

RHM at Castle Combe, April 2006I’m Richard Morris (RHM), a 40-something biker* and avid reader of motorbike magazines. At one time, I had boxes and boxes of the bloody things in the garage going back to the mid-70s with some early editions of “Bike” and “SuperBike” magazines along with full sets of “The Biker” (anyone remember that?), some part-works, a load of “Easyriders”, “Back Street Heroes”, “In the Wind”, “Performance Bikes”, “Motorcycle Mechanics”, etc. You get the picture!

My current bike is a 2002 Kawasaki ZRX1200R and my previous bikes have been:

  1. Honda SS50
  2. Honda CB250N
  3. Honda CX500V
  4. Honda XL185S (second bike)
  5. Triumph T140E Bonneville
  6. Honda XL250S (second bike, bought at the time my then fiancée bought her XL185S)
  7. Moto Guzzi Le Mans II
  8. Triumph T160V Trident Slippery Sam Replica (27 of 28)
  9. Suzuki GS750
  10. Kawasaki KH400
  11. Honda CB250RSA
  12. Yamaha SR500
  13. Honda CB900FA
  14. Kawasaki GPZ550
  15. Kawasaki GPz900R
  16. Yamaha FZR1000 Genesis
  17. Kawasaki ZRX1200R

When I’m not working, I’m either online at various message boards like the ZRX Owners Club or visordown.com or I’m doing the web site for the Motorcycle Folly, one of the longest-running purveyors of fine motorcycle trackdays to the gentry, or riding the ZRX on one of their trackdays.

  • What exactly is this site for?

These days, I’m down to just subscribing to “SuperBike” magazine and I renew this every year when I go to the ‘Bike Show’ at the NEC, Birmingham. I have no idea when the sub. will actually run out as they usually make it more than a year’s sub, so I could probably miss a year and still be fine. The SuperBike editor, Kenny Pryde, is a really approachable bloke too, it must be said.

Now when my copy of “SuperBike” flops through the letterbox, I take the cover DVD and shove it in the DVD player for something to watch last thing at night and take the magazine to the usual reading room, i.e. the toilet… Much as I like SuperBike’s editorial style and content, I sometimes find myself disagreeing with their opinions and/or wondering how the bike they’re reviewing would be for yer average middle-aged biker, i.e. me. Maybe I’m turning into a Grumpy Old Man.

So I decided to do something about it: what I intend to do is read the magazine as usual but this time if something leaps to mind, I’ll write a quick comment here with my ‘take’ on what they’ve written over at “SuperBike”.

  • Will you be reviewing bikes and accessories?

I might also review bits of kit, tracks or bikes from my perspective too in between times. If you’re a bike or accessory manufacturer and would like to send me some stuff to review, please do: e-mail me at editor at reviewspermonth dot com and I’ll provide contact and delivery details.

* What is a “biker”? Well that’s a discussion for another day…
